About Fuschia Technology

Fuschia Technology was founded by Richard and Grace Johnson as a consulting firm to explore new technologies for developing software and hardware solutions to address home and business needs.  We search for projects to develop that have a personal connection to our lives such as projects that benefit our health, ways to improve work efficiency, family communication, and activity management.

Multi-Discipline

Our expertise and experience are wide-ranging and eclectic.  We have a multi-discipline background in software, hardware, engineering, and design.  This enables us to approach technology problems with deep understanding of parameters, constraints, and requirements, and to arrive at well-conceived and elegant solutions.

Solutions-Oriented

We love solving problems.  Our strength is in listening to our customers, understanding their needs, and developing creative, well thought-out solutions.

Who We Are

Richard Johnson Principal

Richard Johnson

Rich lives and breathes technology. He stays current with the latest home/business/medical technology simply because he has a passion for learning. Not only is he a knowledgeable technologist but also a very grounded problem solver, able to apply his vast knowledge to create optimum solutions. Many clients have remarked on how elegant his solutions are for complex problems and how "few bugs" there are in his code as compared with other's code. His first professional computer program he wrote was used for two decades and was only retired because the computer wouldn't support Y2K. Rich, like a good engineer, is thorough in his thinking about the problem space and is adept at utilizing his knowledge, creativity, and tools to implement his solutions.

Rich holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State and worked toward an M.S. in Computer Science at Washington University. He grew up in Iowa and has worked and lived on both the east and west coasts, and now resides in the Midwest in the Twin Cities, not far from where he was born. His professional career started in the aerospace industry developing and designing embedded and mission planning systems. The desire to expand his horizon led him to move to the east coast where he worked with graphic supercomputers on visualization technology. When the entrepreneurial bug bit him, he started Johnson Associates, a software consulting firm with clients that included Pepsi and Sybase. In 1997, he and his wife Grace founded Goal Designs, a software and services firm, and developed the CERTS software for test development and management of IT and professional certifications. The CERTS product was purchased in 2001 by Pearson VUE, a global provider of electronic testing services, test development, and data management. Pearson VUE continues to sell and market CERTS today.

Along the way, Rich has racked up an array of experiences in software and hardware engineering, computer graphics technology, database design, web design, video production, and running a software business.

Aside from computers and technology, Rich's other passions include scuba diving, sailing, playing video games with his children, and bicycling.

Grace Yeung Johnson President

Grace Yeung Johnson

Grace has an appreciation and respect for technology, and is quick at adapting to the latest technology tools. She has an eye for good design and loves working creatively with computer graphics.

Grace holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Barnard College, Columbia University. She was born in Hong Kong, came to the US at a young age, and grew up in the Boston area. She worked as a computer programmer at the dawn of personal computers and the high tech boom.  She traveled extensively for computer software start-ups such as i-Logix and Powersoft as an application engineer and consultant, receiving accolades for her work with clients.  Grace created Powersoft's PowerBuilder certification program and managed the Sybase certification program after their merger. After giving birth to two beautiful girls, she and her husband Rich founded Goal Designs, a software and services firm, and developed the CERTS software for test development and management of IT and professional certifications. The CERTS product was purchased in 2001 by Pearson VUE, a global provider of electronic testing services, test development, and data management. Pearson VUE continues to sell and market CERTS today.

The sale of CERTS brought Grace and family to the Twin Cities where they currently reside. She volunteers at her children's school providing video taping, editing, and production for school theater and music performances. In her spare time she likes to read, play violin duets with her daughter, get inspired by great art and design, and take long walks with her Golden Retriever, Ginger.
